I’m such a procrastinator. I have about five thousand things due this month, including two very huge (well, I consider 12 pages pretty huge) research papers for history and classical mythology that are due on the 27th and 29th, respectively, a Shakespeare performance project, a bunch of journalism stuff, and a couple tests. Ugh.
So, what did I do today? Well, I got up at 8:30. I made myself a nice little schedule that looks like this:
9:30-10:30: history class
10:30-12:30: sleep
12:30-1:00: lunch
1:00-3:30: work on journalism story
3:30-4:30: classical mythology
4:30-5:30: more journalism work
5:30-6:30: formal meal
6:30-9:30: volunteer for walkhome
9:30-bedtime: finish working on story, go to bed.
So, I followed that schedule to the letter, went to both my classes, took wonderful and comprehensive notes, did all my work, finished my journalism story and handed it in early, started on those two big research papers, went outside, stood on the doorstep and watched a few pigs fly by, then had a nice snowball fight with the devil.
Come on, you weren’t really buying all that, were you?
Want to know what I really did today? Okay, you asked for it...
9:30-10:30: Went to history. Made fun of the professor, who takes about 5 minutes to spit out the average sentence (he also looks uncannily like a very large troll). Discussed American politics with Emanuella during lecture instead of taking notes. Drank coffee in an attempt to stay awake. Seethed silently at ugly old bald-headed-know-it-all guy in front row who insists upon interrupting at least once per lecture.
10:30-1:00: Went home and fell asleep to awaken only when ingrid (no, she does not capitalize her name, and I think that’s cool) dropped by for a visit. Missed lunch, dammit.
1:00-1:30: Talked to ingrid about how much classes, Marriott food and basement apartments suck.
1:30-3:30: Played video games on my computer. Checked email. Contemplated starting that journalism article... haha, no I didn’t.
3:30: Thought about going to crappical mythology to pick up that exam I wrote over two weeks ago and never bothered to collect. Decided not to.
3:30-4:30: Whined to Luke about how much I hate classwork.
4:30: Snuck into mythology as class ended and picked up my exam. 71%. Not good. Hmm, maybe I should actually go to that class once in a while. Nah. Was accosted by Kathryn on my way home. She insisted upon walking with me. Attempted to shake her off by stopping to talk to Ben, the Alex hall cat, but she waited. Tried to ignore her increasingly idiotic comments (“Why is it taking so long for them to finish that building? The roof has no shingles yet! If I were building it, I would have done the roof first!”)
4:30-5:30: Went to visit Elinor. She wrote an article for her
webpage
and talked on the phone as I sat there, bored.
5:30-6:30: Donned my crazy black robe and went to formal meal. 2nd floor Alex decided to go with a hockey theme, serving hamburgers and hotdogs and playing “the good old hockey game” really loud. Signed my ballot “Mira Sorvino” and gave them 10 out of 99 for their efforts, adding “that’s being generous.” Burned a pencil in the candle flame. Laughed at Sam’s ballot. Sam signed his name as E.Coli.
6:30-9:30: Sat in Walkhome office. Volunteering is completely against everything I stand for as the founder of ASS, but Angela made me, I swear. Partner and I walked Theo home so she wouldn’t get raped or something on the dark and dangerous streets of Halifax. Laughed at the Walkhome screensaver, which says “Now you have three people to mug.” Pip dropped by. Listened to Pip talk excitedly about making out with some guy.
9:30-10:30: Came back to my room. Three people ICQed me while I was away... I’m so popular. Answered them. Read Elinor’s
new article.
Not bad, although the last paragraph scares me. Decided that I had to update, since she did, and also because I know it’s all Kevin lives for. Had no ideas for an article, so I started this.
10:30-1:30: Asked Elinor if I could come visit “for a few minutes.” Brought fudge, which we both consumed. Watched Elinor work diligently (really) at interpreting “fucking Marx” for about an hour. Watched Elinor read Marx aloud in various accents. Watched Elinor do a “dramatic reading” of Marx, complete with sweeping hand gestures.
1:30-2:00: Andrew showed up. Laughed with Elly and Andrew about various things. Finally left so they could get some sleep.
So, it’s now 2 a.m. and I still haven’t gotten any work done, or even started anything. The journalism article is due in 7 short hours, and I have to squeeze some sleep in somewhere. And what am I doing? Writing this!
Now, you might think I’m lazy. But I assure you, I’m really not. When it comes to things I want to do, like writing this webpage, for example, I can sit down for however long it takes and do it. But when it comes to studying for an exam in a class I detest, or writing a paper about something I find boring and stupid, or editing a journalism article no one will want to read, I procrastinate.
Maybe I should just drop out of school and get a job at
Mighty Big TV.
At least then I could be snarky and bitchy and hand my assignments in two weeks late, and get paid for it.
